Facebook launched Preferred Marketing Developer Program – and we’re in it!

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Facebook has lauched the new Preferred Marketing Developer program last week, awarding us the bagde for Apps developers.

Kremsa Digitial has been a part of the previous program – we have joined the Preferred Developer Consulatnt (PDC) group as early as December 2009 – and now we're exicted to be a part of this new development.

Facebook has merged the PDC program with Marketing API (MAP) program, which have until now "…connected brands with developers to help them build apps on Facebook Platform, optimize social plugins, manage ad campaigns, and develop strategies for Facebook Pages." According to Facebook's John Yi, the new program is supposed to bring developers to the right clients and make it possible for any brand or company to find consultants who can work with them to build comprehensive Facebook campaigns and presences.

At the moment we have the Apps Qualification and we're planning to apply and hopefully gain the Pages and Insights  too.

On Reaping Day in district Slovakia, our name was selected to create a custom Facebook app that hosted a contest for BUX.SK fans. They had to survive several rounds of gruelling questions, that quizzed them on their survival skills, sense of humor, agility and mental endurance. No simple task, but we have succeeded and emerged as the victors!

In other words …we created this custom Facebook app for the slovak online bookshop BUX.SK. Have a look here.

May the odds ever be ever in your favor…

Timeline for Pages: How to drive traffic to your custom tabs

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Timeline for pages may have obliterated the landing tab with the incentive to like, but fear not, there is a way you can feature fan-exclusive content on your timeline-d page.

With Timeline for Pages the marketers will loose the option to showcase custom apps since timeline does not give you the option to set a landing tab for a page. They will also loose the possibility to ask fans to like and gain access to fan-exclusive content such as vouchers or entry into a Facebook contest right on the landing tab.
On the top of that, the image that has the most impact on a user- the cover image- cannot feature any calls to action such as Like or Share. It also cannot feature any purchase or pricing information such as “get 40%off on our website today”.

The timeline layout does seem a little bit un-friendly to the online marketer. However, it might not be as bad as it seems.  Information from various sources points to the fact that default landing tabs drive only 10% of the total Page app traffic and that 90% comes from published links and ads.

If you would like to still drive users on certain tabs that feature special content or custom apps, there is a way how to do that.

There are four App Icons (old speak: Tab thumbnails) featured under the cover image on your page. Make sure your significant tab is visible there. Take care when selecting the App Icon image and edit the App Icon name to communicate as effectively as possible on what the content (gain) is. For example a special coupon or your portfolio.

Every week, you can pin one story to the top of your timeline. Make this a story that will highlight the existence of this tab and the content that is located there

.

Fan and non-fan view options are stil possible for tabs however, the fan version will only releal itself after refresh.

These changes make Pages more user-orientated. Forcing Pages to focus more on story-telling and less on marketing will increase the need for skilled content managers. Facebook Page admins will need to learn more copy-writing and visual communications skills. This should be a good thing for pages and users in the long run.

Timeline for Pages is here, get ready

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Hours before the kick-off of the Facebook Marketing Conference (#fMC) in New York, Facebook has decided to start rolling out the much awaited Facebook Timeline layout for pages. Here is a short article to help you make your page transition into the Timeline era smoothly. It is worth updating your page now, because come March 30, Timeline will be on all pages, ready or not.

How to turn it on

Go to the page you administer and on the top you should see a message from Facebook telling you that Timeline is available for your page now. Exciting! Hit preview to see how your page will look. Click publish and you have a timeline page too.

Design a good cover image+profile pic combination

One of the most visually striking features of the Timeline design (apart from the timeline itself) will be the large cover image, that every fan will see when they land on your page.
The web has been ripe with ideas how to amuse your friends with funny and clever cover and profile pic combinations, such as this one. There is no reason why your page shouldn't do the same – timeline gives your brand the opportunity to communicate visually and be funny. The new profile pic size remains 180px in width and max 540px in lenght. But note that he width will be resized to fit 125×125 px square cutout of the profile image. The cover image should be 851 x 315 pixels.

Beware of the sizes

the timeline itself- around which are your posts organized- works differently than the old layout. When it comes to displaying pictures the timeline will show either a small pic 400 x 400 pixles or let you blow it up (feature on timeline) to a bigger size of 800 x 400 pixels.
Make sure you optimalize your pictures before posting them. Figure out, whether you will want them to be shown in the small or featured size and resize them accordingly.

Tell your story on Timeline

The one truly new thing that timeline will let you do is to tell the story of your brand on your page. Timeline is organized by years and lets you add content in the past as well.
think about the milestones that your brand reached and document them on your timeline. New branches? New product lines? New directors?  However you want to tell the story of your brand, timeline will let you.

Tabs, overhauled

The navigation of Facebook pages is completely changed with the new Timeline layout, affecting the way users see tabs a lot. This is probably one of our leas favourite changes, due to the fact that it makes navigation tad unclear.

Tabs are not displayed on the left side like we're used to. They are now featured next to the profile pic. Only four of them are initially visible, to view all you have to click and expand. This navigation is not ideal, that is a fact.
Due to the fact that branded pages usually have multiple tabs with apps and house rules or contents going on, not having them initially visibles definately a drawback.Once you are in the tab, however, there is an improvement. The tab witdh has increased from 510px to 810px, which gives brands more space for content on tabs. As of now, timeline tab will display the 510px tab and just leave the edges blank.
We know that our designers are quite excited about the possibilities this brings. The navigation when you are in the tab is a useful drop-down menu on the top, which is neat and useful and lets you easily navigate between tabs.

Cute as a Message button

After a round of testing and a couple of dissapearig acts, the Messsage Button is now a feature of your page. It is featured prominently next to the page name, along with other actions such as Share, making it easer for the fans to interact with your brand.

Integrated Marketing For Local Businesses – Part 1

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

There are plenty of opportunities for local buisnesses to establish their online presence and connect it to specific products or services they sell. Most of the tools mentioned in our articles are free to use or they require just a minimal budget.

Local businesses are located all over the city, everywhere around you, but in case they don’t have budgets like McDonald’s or Starbucks, people won’t know about them from TV, radio or outdoor ads. Few other marketing opportunities include recommendations from satisfied customers (word of mouth) and local presence as people drive by or walk around. (more…)
